VA Medical Center to Host Random Acts of Flowers/Melissa Stockwell

On Thursday, November 10, 2016, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center will be welcoming Random Acts of Flowers Chicago and Chicago Veteran and 2016 Paralympic Bronze Medalist Melissa Stockwell.

Random Acts of Flowers improves the emotional health and wellbeing of individuals in healthcare facilities by delivering recycled flowers, encouragement and personal moments of kindness. They will deliver flowers to more than 500 local veterans during the week of Veterans Day.

In 2004, while serving in the US Army, a roadside bomb in Central Bagdad struck Melissa’s Humvee. The blast took her left leg above the knee. After a year of rehab at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Melissa has accomplished extraordinary athletic feats,  including being a 3 time Para Triathlon World Champion, and on September 11, 2016, Melissa won the Bronze Medal in Rio’s Para Triathlon.  Melissa has used these successes to motivate others and is the proud co-founder of Dare2tri Para triathlon Club.
