CHICAGO, Ill., Thursday Night, July 26th, 2012, Last night, the local community showed strong support for Chicago artists during Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project event and exhibition hosted at the Chicago Urban Art Society (CUAS). The second leg of the four-city tour, drew more than 500 VIPs and art enthusiasts who attended and voted for their favorite custom-designed Red Bull coolers, crafted by 20 urban, contemporary and street artists. The functional pieces of art will be installed in top venues throughout the city.

During the much-anticipated finale, works by GOONS and Hebru Brantley received top honors by the curatorial panel, which included Candida Alvarez, Interim Dean of the Graduate Studies program at The Art Institute of Chicago; Robyn Farrell, a writer and curator who serves as the Assistant Director at the Donald Young Gallery; and Daria Brit Shapiro, the current cultural engineer for the internationally renowned SCOPE Art Show. The audience choice went to Don’t Fret.

Winner by vote of luminary panel and overall crowd favorite, Hebru Brantley said “Red Bull Curates does great things for the arts of Chicago where otherwise it would not be seen; other cities cannot compare to the unexpected and spontaneous pieces that were put together tonight and Chicago delivers an uppercut in the last round to the international art world.”

All three artists will receive an all-expense paid trip to Miami during the Art Basel season to participate in the Red Bull Curates group show alongside artists from Los Angeles, New York and Miami, where they be able to exhibit and sell works from their own collections.
