  • As part of Piccolo Theatre's renewed creative exploration into making people laugh all year every year, the 2016/2017 Season begins its return to actor-driven story telling with British playwright Shelagh Stephenson's 1996 comedy The Memory of Water. Loosely based on Stephenson's own experience with familial loss, this winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy (2000) focuses on the shared experience of loss through laughter.

  • The Neo-Futurists are proud to present the world premiere of Neo-Futurist Ensemble Member Tif Harrison’s Saturn Returns, A Neo-Lab production, supported by The National Endowment for the Arts, October 13 – November 19, at The Neo-Futurarium, 5153 N. Ashland. Saturn Returns is created by Tif Harrison, directed by Jen Ellison and featuring the writing and performances of: Kurt Chiang*, Tif Harrison*, Lily Mooney*, Kirsten Riiber* and Andrew Tham. Previews are Thursday, Oct. 13 - Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. with opening night Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Performances run Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices for previews and Thursdays are pay what you can; for the regular run, tickets are $10-25.   • The Joffrey Ballet holds open auditions for the Children's Cast of the world premiere of Tony Award® winner Christopher Wheeldon’s Nutcracker at its downtown studios in Joffrey Tower, 10 E. Randolph Street, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 and Sunday, September 11, 2016. All students in the Chicagoland area meeting the criteria with dance experience are welcome to audition on their respective dates.

  • The House Theatre of Chicago proudly announces the return of Dennis Watkins in The Magic Parlour, at the Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel, 17 E. Monroe, for an open run starting September 2.   • Chicago Sinfoniettakicks off its 2016-2017 season withthe sounds ofStravinsky, Gershwin, Michael Jackson, Coldplay, and more in piano-centric concert Unhinged,featuring the Emmy Award-nominated Anderson & Roe Piano Duo and award winning piano prodigy Clayton Stephenson. The Sinfonietta performs Unhinged twice: first, in the western suburbs at Wentz Concert Hall of North Central College, Naperville, Saturday, September 17 at 8 pm, and then again in its downtown Chicago home venue of Symphony Center, Monday, September 19, 2016 at 7:30 pm.

  • The Music Institute of Chicago announces the 2016–17 season of its Faculty and Guest Artist Series, showcasing noteworthy keyboard artists, illustrious alumni, and the legacy of Louis Armstrong. All but one of the concerts take place at the historic Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue in downtown Evanston. In March, the Music Institute presents one special performance at its partner venue, Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut Street in downtown Chicago.
